Our teak is selected from plantations in Java, Indonesia controlled by Perum Perhuntani, the Indonesian Government Forestry Department, which works to ensure the conservation of the plantations and their surrounding environments.
What is the teak weathering process?
Over a few months teak will weather to a silver grey colour, due to sunlight.
Can I stop teak going a silver gray colour?
It is possible to stop the weathering process by applying water based wood sealer to new teak; this preserves the natural colour of the teak. This procedure needs to be repeated every two to four years. It is advisable to do this on our Standard Teak Range of furniture.
Should I use teak oil?
No. We strongly recommend against using teak oil. It is best to use a water based wood sealer to preserve the colour of the teak. We recommend the use of Burgess Wood Sealer.
Why do cracks appear in my furniture?
Due to teak being a natural product, cracks may appear in the end grains of components such as the arms and legs. This can be due to changes in the environment affecting the moisture content of the teak. This is normal, especially in heavier components and does not affect the use of your furniture.
